Now is the perfect time to shift your mindset and build the life of your dreams… sustainably
Get Off the Hamster Wheel
Have you ever seen those videos of hamsters running on a wheel, and suddenly, they can’t keep up with the speed anymore and start tumbling like towels in a dryer until they get spit right out?
When I started my bookstagram, I was posting at least one reel per day (along with multiple other posts most weeks). I grew a lot in a short amount of time which led me to put even more time into creating content, doing market research, analyzing my insights, and generally overthinking everything. (Sound familiar?)
I was the hamster on that wheel and the speed was picking up faster than I could handle it. But I was gaining around 500 followers per day, which was a pretty good incentive to keep me running full steam ahead.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I loved creating and connecting with this community (and still do). Bookstagram is a magical community full of wonderful, like-minded people (hello, YOU 😘). And it’s easy to dive head-first into something you enjoy and find yourself succeeding in.
But here’s the thing about sprinting… it’s not sustainable for an extended period of time.
Eventually, those little hamster legs burn out, and that wheel keeps going and… *cue tumbling in the dryer like yesterday’s gym socks*.
For me, that tumble looked like not being as present for my family as I wanted to be, and sacrificing self-care and time doing the things I really loved (hello reading…well, goodbye reading in this case). It started to create tension in my relationships and eventually took a toll on my mental health.
And then the big finale… burnout set in, and bye-bye, little hamster.
Hustle Culture Mindset is Sooo Five Years Ago
Ready to hear the question that got me out of the spin cycle? (TW: it’s a bit confronting)
What is the point of having a growing or “successful” IG account (or business) if it is unmanageable and interfering with the kind of life you want to live?
Yeah, I know… it hits hard. But I’m only saying this because I genuinely care about your journey. *virtually hands you a box of tissues and a pint of ice cream.*
So, if you’re feeling stuck, as the old adage says, “the truth will set you free.”
Here’s the truth: Instagram exists to serve YOU. Not the other way around.
Instagram Should Serve YOU and YOUR GOALS
Breathe the free air, my friend.
You may be asking yourself how this idea is even possible. Maybe you’ve found yourself about to be tumbled, or you’re already feeling burnout.
It is NEVER too late to pivot and start building a strategy that allows you to reach your goals while living the life you dream of.
Fair warning: When I changed my mindset and started building a sustainable strategy, my growth leveled out to a slower (but steady) pace.
I’m not going to lie and say that was an easy pill to swallow at first. But when I looked around and realized I was finally building the life of my dreams and living in the kind of balance I’d been craving, it made it all worth it.
It All Starts With Your Mindset
Ask yourself:
- What does my ideal life look like?
- What are my IG/business goals?
- How can I leverage IG to serve me in reaching those goals while building my dream life?
- What boundaries do I need to build into my strategy to ensure sustainability?
- How can I daily let go of a “hustle culture” mindset in order to embrace a life of intentional balance and sustainable growth?
